Recap from the webinar: Innovative Practices for a Sustainable European Agrisector

On July 8, 2025, the webinar “Innovative practices for a sustainable European agrisector” brought together leading experts and EU-funded projects to explore how data-driven technologies and nature-based practices are reshaping the future of agriculture in Europe.

Hosted by F6S and moderated by Felipe Taylor, the 90-minute session highlighted innovation pathways, shared experiences from ongoing projects, and opened the floor for discussions on collaboration and scaling sustainable solutions across regions.

Spotlight on NOSTRADAMUS

Representing the NOSTRADAMUS project, Ioannis Varvaris (ERATOSTHENES | Project Coordinator) presented how the consortium is using Earth Observation, AI, and data integration to accelerate the circular transformation of the European agrifood sector.

He emphasized the project’s role in:

  • Harnessing Earth Observation data to provide actionable insights for farmers, policymakers, and value chain actors.

  • Developing data cubes and digital tools that enable smarter decision-making in agriculture.

  • Supporting a circular and resilient agrisector by reducing waste and optimizing resource use.

NOSTRADAMUS’s contribution underscored the importance of bridging advanced digital technologies with on-the-ground practices to create scalable and replicable models for sustainable farming.

Other project highlights

  • INNO4CFIs (Giulia Berni, PLANET) presented their approach to advancing climate finance innovation and supporting sustainable investment frameworks.

  • AgriMate (Leire Bastida, TECNALIA) showcased smart solutions that integrate IoT and data analytics to improve farming efficiency.

  • PaluWise (Päivi Merilä, LUKE) focused on nature-based strategies to strengthen climate adaptation in agriculture.

  • REGILIENCE (Anne-Florence Harpon, F6S) shared insights into building resilience and fostering knowledge exchange across European regions.

Interactive discussions

During the structured discussion and Q&A, speakers and participants explored:

  • Barriers to scaling innovative practices across diverse agricultural regions in Europe.

  • How to ensure that farmers, SMEs, and policymakers can access and apply digital solutions.

  • Opportunities for synergies and future collaborations among ongoing Horizon Europe projects.

Looking ahead

The webinar highlighted a shared vision: a sustainable, data-driven, and resilient agrifood sector built on cross-project collaboration. By combining technological innovation with nature-based practices, European initiatives like NOSTRADAMUS and its peer projects are paving the way toward a greener and more circular agricultural future.
